Apologies for the lateness of this latest post! We’ve been working with busy schedules and had a small change of staff due to graduating seniors. Thanks again for your patience. But now, for the show! This latest episode features Dr. Michael Ewing, Director of CSB|SJU Counseling & Health Promotion and CSB Health Services!

This is Dr. Ewing’s 12th Year at CSB|SJU. He received his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Dakota. His previous work includes working in the Counseling Centers at the University of North Dakota, Iowa State University, and University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Dr. Ewing has worked at CSB|SJU since 1998, and has worked in college counseling since the early 1990′s. He thinks college is often a time of self-exploration and growth for students, and he enjoys the opportunities he has to work with students on a variety of issues. He is trained as a generalist and has experience working with a wide range of developmental and mental health concerns. Dr. Ewing believes counseling can help students enhance their self-understanding, coping and self-advocacy skills, and ability to form healthy relationships. His approach is collaborative, and he promotes the use of personal resources to facilitate desired change and greater well-being.

PRISM (People Representing the Sexual Minority) is a student group at CSB/SJU that works in advocacy, event planning and education in GLBT issues.

Drew Jansen is a 1983 graduate of Saint John’s University, and is a composer, lyricist and music director that has worked on both the national and local arts scene.  He lives in Golden Valley with his partner, Jimmy Martin.

Ronald Perrier is a professor emeritus of theatre and film studies at St. Cloud State University.  Ronald has written many books, the latest of which is titled: “Persistence of Vision: The Life Journey of a Gay Man – A Memoir”.  His website is http://www.archiepub.com

Theresa Schumacher OSB, a member of Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, Minnesota, has served as a teacher, campus minister, formation (novice) director and liturgy director for her monastic community. She has worked in college, parish and monastery settings. Her graduate studies are in Music from the University of Minnesota with a minor in Women’s Studies and in Liturgical Theology from the University of Notre Dame.

Currently Sister Theresa is working with various aspects of liturgy and liturgical life at the monastery which includes teaching in the monastery’s initial formation program, being a spiritual director, and presenting in programs through spiritual ministries and vocation ministry. She does consultations for parishes and monasteries and gives retreats and presentations on liturgy and liturgical spirituality at home and abroad.

Kelly Marie Prosen is a M.A. candidate in systematic theology at Saint John’s School of Theology Seminary. Her current academic  research explores the interrelationship among Christology, feminist theology, kenosis, and theological aesthetics, particularly in the work of Hans Urs von Balthasar and Elizabeth Johnson.  Her other academic work investigates the relationship between poetry and theology, reflecting on themes of doubt, God’s gracious relationship to the world, the sanctity of the ordinary, and the under told stories of New Testament women.

This week’s guest: Dr. Vincent Smiles!  Dr. Smiles is an undergraduate theology professor at CSB/SJU.  He teaches “Theology in the Light of Science – The Bible, Church and Gender”, “The Biblical Tradition – Paul and His Letters – Jesus and the Gospels”.  Dr. Smiles has a passion for the Scriptures, and especially Paul.  He obtained his undergraduate degree in England in Philosphy and Theology, and earned his MA at SJU with a thesis on the Gospel of Matthew.  The Dr. then went on to acquire his PhD from Fordham University where he presented a dissertation on Galatians.

Join Peggy as she talks with Father Dale Launderville, OSB.  Fr. Dale took first vows at St. John’s Abbey in 1974 and was ordained in 1979.  He completed a PhD in Semitic Languages at the Catholic University of America in 1986 and has been teaching at St. John’s since that time.  Fr. Dale served as Dean of the SOT from 1989 to 1999 and also as Rector of the Seminary from 1992 to 1997.  His work in ancient languages directed his research toward comparative topics.  Fr. Dale has written the following books:  The Dynamics of Royal Authority in Homeric Greece, Biblical Israel, and Old Babylonian Mesopotamia (Eerdmans, 2003); Spirit and Reason: The Embodied Character of Ezekiel’s Symbolic Thinking (Baylor U. Press, 2007);  Celibacy in the Ancient World: Its Ideal and Practice in Pre-Hellenistic Israel, Greece, and Mesopotamia (Liturgical Press, forthcoming).

Join Peggy as she talks with Rev. Mr. Charles A. Bobertz. Deacon Bobertz received his B.A. from St. John’s University in 1980 (History and German) where he was also a DJ at KSJU (now KJNB!). He earned his Master of Theological Studies degree (Scripture) from Harvard University in 1983. He received M.A., Th.M. and Ph.D. degrees (New Testament and Early Christianity) from Yale University in 1988. He was ordained to the diaconate for the diocese of St. Cloud in 1997.

Deacon Bobertz has taught scripture and early church history at St. Michael’s College (VT), Loyola College in Maryland and, since 1993, is professor of New Testament and Patristics at St. John’s School of Theology*Seminary (MN). He is the editor, along with Professor David Braake, of Scripture and Ear!y Christian Identity (University of Notre Dame Press, 2002) and is currently writing a book on the Gospel of Mark entitled, A Liturgical Reading of the Gospel of Mark to be published by Baker Academic Press. He has published widely in leading theological journals.

In addition to his University appointment, Deacon Bobertz now serves St. Hubert’s Catholic Community in Chanhassen, MN. Along with his regular parish ministries, deacon Bobertz preaches and teaches scripture in parish settings throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. Deacon Bobertz and his wife Mary have two children, Sarah (20) and Thomas (18) and live in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Guest: Emrys Anu

Emrys is a Wiccan High Priestess in two traditions, and has a passion for interfaith dialogue.  She believes our shared views far outweigh our differences and Emrys envisions a world where we stand shoulder to shoulder to build a peaceful, healthy planet.

Emrys Anu is an ordained minister with the Wiccan Church of Minnesota, the Vice President of the Upper Midwest Pagan Alliance, and founder of the Ministry of Magick: Pagan Prison Initiative.  Emrys volunteers weekly at the Minnesota Correctional Facility for Men in Rush City, MN.

Guest:  John Elsen

Local band Sepia Tone visited our studio for a second time before performing a rockin’ concert at Brother Willie’s Pub. Brandon Dale and I, caught up with Aaron Brostrom (lead vocalist) and Nick Johnson (guitar/vocals) and found out what their band had been up to since they visited last May. The duo also delighted us with some live music and had us grooving in our seats. Take a listen below, and hear what a great reunion we had!
