Join Peggy as she talks with Rev. Mr. Charles A. Bobertz. Deacon Bobertz received his B.A. from St. John’s University in 1980 (History and German) where he was also a DJ at KSJU (now KJNB!). He earned his Master of Theological Studies degree (Scripture) from Harvard University in 1983. He received M.A., Th.M. and Ph.D. degrees (New Testament and Early Christianity) from Yale University in 1988. He was ordained to the diaconate for the diocese of St. Cloud in 1997.
Deacon Bobertz has taught scripture and early church history at St. Michael’s College (VT), Loyola College in Maryland and, since 1993, is professor of New Testament and Patristics at St. John’s School of Theology*Seminary (MN). He is the editor, along with Professor David Braake, of Scripture and Ear!y Christian Identity (University of Notre Dame Press, 2002) and is currently writing a book on the Gospel of Mark entitled, A Liturgical Reading of the Gospel of Mark to be published by Baker Academic Press. He has published widely in leading theological journals.
In addition to his University appointment, Deacon Bobertz now serves St. Hubert’s Catholic Community in Chanhassen, MN. Along with his regular parish ministries, deacon Bobertz preaches and teaches scripture in parish settings throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. Deacon Bobertz and his wife Mary have two children, Sarah (20) and Thomas (18) and live in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
