Join Peggy as she talks with Father Dale Launderville, OSB. Fr. Dale took first vows at St. John’s Abbey in 1974 and was ordained in 1979. He completed a PhD in Semitic Languages at the Catholic University of America in 1986 and has been teaching at St. John’s since that time. Fr. Dale served as Dean of the SOT from 1989 to 1999 and also as Rector of the Seminary from 1992 to 1997. His work in ancient languages directed his research toward comparative topics. Fr. Dale has written the following books: The Dynamics of Royal Authority in Homeric Greece, Biblical Israel, and Old Babylonian Mesopotamia (Eerdmans, 2003); Spirit and Reason: The Embodied Character of Ezekiel’s Symbolic Thinking (Baylor U. Press, 2007); Celibacy in the Ancient World: Its Ideal and Practice in Pre-Hellenistic Israel, Greece, and Mesopotamia (Liturgical Press, forthcoming).
